2007 Spring Schedule

Here's the 'goal' for the spring. I'm not signed up for everything yet, but here's what's planned.

February 2nd - Uwharrie Mountain Run 40 miler

March 1st - Seneca Creek Greenway Trail Marathon

March 2nd - B&A Trail Half-Marathon

March 29th - HAT Run 50K

April 12th - Bull Run Run 50 miler

April 26-27th - 24 hour Adventure Trail Run

May 17-18th - Massanutten Mountain Trails 100 Mile Run The big papa.

It's the same schedule from last year, but my goals will be a little different for each race. Last year, I set a PR at Uwharrie (10:24), HAT (5:59), and BRR (10:32), and did well at Seneca (5:50) in bad trail conditions, as well as the next day at B&A (2:05) while following a 10 min run/1 min walk plan.

However, the ultimate goal is MMT, which I finished in 35:45 - just under the 36 hour time limit. I know I can do better and I have a better idea of the course and what it takes to finish. Yes, I've already finished, but I know I could've trained better, and should've trained on the course more. I don't think it was lack of knowledge about the course that did me in, it was lack of foot time on the course since it was f'ed up feet that slowed me down the last 50k or so. I can't describe the pain I was in and don't want to experience that again this year.

So the plan this year to head out to the MMT course every 'free' weekend to cover sections. I'm not quite sure yet how to manage a 50k or so on my own with how/where to leave drop bags of nutrition, but I'll figure that out closer to those dates. The same weekend, I'll do another trail run closer to DC - either head up Potomac Heritage Trail to Turkey Run and back, hit the Bull Run course, or run the trails in Prince William Park. I would love do to some of the EX2 Backyard Burn Trail Runs, but I'm not sure how to work them into my schedule. If I do them, they'll be more like recovery runs and time on my feet/on other trails, instead of for speed. We'll see.

I love the challenge and I'm looking forward to MMT again.

This thing called "life"

It got in the way, or I started paying better attention to it.. something like that.

It's been almost a month since I've posted much of anything, but a lot has been going on. I don't know if I can cover everything, but I'll try to give a quick summary of the last 4 weeks or so.

- I had an interesting trip home for the holidays, but getting back was a breeze.
- Having someone to meet you at the airport is always a nice 'welcome back' present.
- I spent NYE at home with my GF and her brother watching "The Bourne Ultimatum". A nice, low key way to ring in the new year.
- I have no resolutions
- I had 6 friends from Michigan come to town to help me celebrate my 31st birthday.
- I was much more tame with the alcohol and didn't get surly, but did get in an argument with my GF. Oh well.
- I finished up my time on the Board of Directors of the DC Tri Club after serving for 2.5 yrs.
- I have no plans to do any tris this year.
- Don't hold me accountable for that last statement as I'm sure I'll do a 'what the hell' tri at some point this year.
- I've applied for a handful of new jobs and had one phone interview.
- I talked with my boss and she knows that I'm looking and is cool with it.
- She probably knows that I look for jobs while at work.
- At least I'm not looking at porn.
- I was excited to get a new scale
- I wasn't excited to see the numbers when I stepped on it :( At least it's a start.
- I like to sleep. A lot.
- Nyquil.

So that's about it. I think you're pretty well caught up to this point.

Notice there's not a whole lot of talk about working out/training? Yep...

D. Set off the car alarm while still inside and parked at a rest area.
E. Wake up when we are just south of Ann Arbor as we're pulling over so the other van can switch drivers
F. With head tilted to the left and resting on my backpack, I wonder why I'm not looking directly at the dotted yellow line, and why it's over the driver's right shoulder.
G. Pray while my van barely pulls off the highway just north of Ann Arbor for a new driver to take over.
a. New driver of both vans are passengers.
H. Arrive at GRR a little later than expected.

My (then) 8 month pregnant sister got up to get me at the airport. Found out later from my BIL that he didn't know she had left the bed at all. I asked her how long I had to sleep before my nephew would be waking me up, and she said she'd try to hold him off until 9am.

Arrived at my destination (bed) at 5:30am.
